Zdeněk Škrott
Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine
Zdenek Skrott, PhD, is a group leader Proteotoxic stress reaserch group under the Laboratory of Genome Integrity, , focused on molecular mechanisms of cellular stress responses, particularly proteotoxic stress and DNA damage, and their roles in cancer development and therapy. He is an expert in the ubiquitin–proteasome system, with international training at the Karmanos Cancer Institute (Prof. Q.P. Dou) and Caltech (Prof. Raymond Deshaies). During his PhD study Dr. Škrott discovered the cancer-relevant role of NPL4 aggregation by drug disulfiram, published in Nature and co-authored follow-up studies and patents.
After his PhD, Dr. Škrott co-developed a microscopy-based technique enabling spatiotemporal analysis of proteotoxic stress. He has managed national and international research projects, collaborated with pharmaceutical companies, and contributed to technology transfer. His interests also extend to drug repurposing, nanotechnology, and advanced microscopy.
Dr. Škrott has published 16 peer-reviewed papers, holds two international patents, and has received several awards including the Sanofi Prize for Pharmacy. He has >900 SCI citations (H-index 10).
