University of Gdańsk
Prof. Piotr M. Skowron is a molecular biologist, biotechnologist, and inventor. Founder and Head of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Gdańsk, Poland. He received his PhD in Molecular Biology through a joint research program conducted at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (USA) and the University of Gdańsk. For over 30 years, his research has focused on molecular biotechnology, genetic engineering, thermophilic bacteria and bacteriophages, synthetic biology, protein engineering, bionanotechnology, regenerative medicine, and novel therapeutic platforms. He developed the world’s first thermophilic phage display system and invented the internationally patented DNA FACE™ technology, enabling the construction of concatemeric proteins with programmable biological functions. The technology has been applied to the development of innovative vaccine and biopharmaceutical platforms, including a novel SARS-CoV-2 vaccine.
Prof. Skowron is the author or co-author of more than 90 scientific publications (combined IF app. 500) and 32 patents and patent applications. He spent 13 years in the U.S. biotechnology industry, holding positions including Group Leader, CSO, and Vice President. He currently serves as President of BioVentures Institute Ltd. His achievements have been recognized with five Rector’s Awards of the University of Gdańsk and the prestigious Primum Cooperatio Award for excellence in academia–industry collaboration and technology transfer.
