University of Warsaw

Paweł Sikorski, PhD, DSc is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, and head of the Laboratory of Epitranscriptomics at the Biological and Chemical Research Centre. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms by which innate immunity recognizes and responds to RNA viruses. In particular, his work investigates how host cell receptors detect viral RNA and how viruses evade immune surveillance by masking their RNA structures. His research also addresses host-pathogen interactions in non-human species, with implications for livestock health, zoonotic transmission, and global food security.

Dr. Sikorski completed his PhD at the University of Warsaw under the supervision of Prof. Joanna Kufel and conducted postdoctoral research in the group of Prof. Jacek Jemielity at the Centre for New Technologies UW. He also completed an international research internship at the IBMP in Strasbourg in the laboratory of Dr. Dominique Gagliardi. In 2023, he obtained his habilitation and received both the Prime Minister of Poland Award and the Individual Prize of the Rector of the University of Warsaw for his scientific achievements. He is the author of over 20 publications in leading journals, including Science Advances, Nucleic Acids Research, and Journal of the American Chemical Society, and is a co-inventor on four international patent applications.
