IMol Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw

Dr. Michał Wasilewski is a cell biologist specializing in the biology and function of mitochondria. Currently a senior researcher in the group of Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska at the IMol Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, he develops new techniques to study the localization of proteins within the cell and the mechanisms of their import into mitochondria. His work bridges the gap between mitochondrial biogenesis and cellular stress responses, building on a deep expertise in the field.

Previously, he explored the intersection of steroidogenesis and mitochondrial shape in the laboratory of Prof. Luca Scorrano at the Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine in Padua. Before this, he investigated mitochondrial bioenergetics during his doctoral studies at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He is an alumnus of both the University of Groningen and the University of Warsaw.
