Martin A. Lysak is a professor at Masaryk University (MU), head of the Plant Cytogenomics research group at CEITEC MU, and head of the Experimental Plant Biology section at MU. His research field is evolutionary genomics and chromosome biology in plants. His work focuses on genome evolution, polyploidy, and karyotype structure, with a particular emphasis on the mustard family (Brassicaceae).
He obtained his PhD in 2000 and subsequently carried out postdoctoral research at the Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research in Gatersleben. He also worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, before establishing his independent research group at MU in Brno.
Martin Lysak is internationally recognized for his major contributions to understanding chromosome and karyotype evolution, as well as post-polyploid genome diploidization. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 publications and has an H-index of 64.
