Marie Mirouze is a plant geneticist and genomicist at the Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), in Perpignan, France. After studying the epigenetic control of retrotransposons in Arabidopsis during her postdoc (Pr Jerzy Paszkowski lab, University of Geneva), she went back to France and developed a method to characterize the extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) compartment in plant and animal species (mobilome-seq). Her research focuses on transposable elements, eccDNAs, structural variations and their role in adaptation, notably in rice fields and beech forests, but also in humans. She uses genetics and bioinformatics and is interested in the transfer of technologies from fundamental research to private companies. Since 2026 she is scientific advisor for the Cleomics company
