Krzysztof began his academic career at the University of Gdańsk (UG) in Prof. Grzegorz Węgrzyn’s laboratory within the Faculty of Biology. He later joined the Department of Molecular Virology at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk (IFB UG-MUG), where he completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Bogusław Szewczyk, focusing on innovative diagnostic methods for influenza. Since then, he has contributed to numerous scientific projects, leveraging his expertise in molecular biology to plan and design state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. During this period, he co-founded Vaxican alongside academic colleagues, marking his transition into startup entrepreneurship.
What sets Krzysztof apart is his unique ability to translate scientific depth into robust operational methodologies. He has played a key role in building and developing advanced R&D laboratories, including BSL, GLP, and ISO 17025-compliant facilities—and has authored comprehensive procedures for equipment maintenance, reagent handling, and laboratory safety. This dual expertise is applied both at Vaxican and within the team responsible for operating one of Poland's most advanced BSL-3+ laboratories at IFB UG-MUG.
A dedicated advocate for academia-business synergy, Krzysztof frequently collaborates with the UG Technology Transfer Office and the university’s special purpose vehicle, Univentum Labs. His work serves as a practical testament to the power of successful cooperation between science and the commercial sector.
