Ewa Zuba-Surma
Departmet of Cell Biology, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland
Prof. Ewa Zuba-Surma is a group leader in the Department of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She is a Full Professor in medical sciences, with specialty in medical biology.
Her research interest is focused on clinical applications of selected stem cell populations and their derivatives such as extracellular vesicles (EVs) in tissue repair, especially in cardiology and orthopedic fields. Prof. E. Zuba-Surma conducts translational research questing for mechanisms of pro-regenerative stem cells and EV activity in injured tissues and implementory research on development stem cell- and EV- based advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) for clinical use. She is also a co-inventor of “MesoCellA-Ortho”– the ATMP developed in her lab and dedicated for treatment of patients with osteoarthritis, which has been tested in phase I/II clinical trial (BioMiStem-CT) for its safety and efficacy.
Prof. E. Zuba-Surma is an author of more than 150 publications in the fields of stem cell and regenerative medicine, and co-inventor of 3 patents and more than 10 patent applications.
She has been awarded with several national and international prices for scientific, translational and implementation achievements and she is actively founded with several grants for translational research from agencies in Poland and EU (NCN, NCBiR, FNP, EC).
