Coventry University

Dorota Dobrzanska-Szoentag is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in academia and research. With over five years of being an academic at Coventry University, she was also MSc Biotechnology Course Director, overseeing and enhancing the program's curriculum.  Her research interests include:

-  metatranscriptomics analysis of the environmental bacterial community in response to antibiotics at the level of non-coding RNAs;

-  further understanding of antibiotic resistance mechanisms;

- anaerobic digestion optimisation;

Prior to her role at Coventry University, Dorota worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick, where she focused on genome engineering of phage and its host. Her research aimed to engineer synthetic phages to target antibiotic-resistant bacteria, paving the way for innovative approaches in phage therapy and synthetic biology.

Dorota's passion for advancing healthcare led her to serve as a Clinical Trial Coordinator at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. In this role, she managed the storage, processing, and embedding of various tissues, contributing to the Arden Tissue Bank's operations.

She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, having been recognized for her contributions to teaching and learning in higher education. This prestigious designation, awarded in February 2019, reflects her commitment to excellence in education.

Dorota holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Life Sciences from the University of Warwick. During her doctoral studies, she specialized in designing and synthesizing surfaces for the selection of methanogens, supporting the optimisation of anaerobic digesters.
