Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poznan, Poland
Anna Philips heads the Laboratory of Bioinformatics at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences (IBCH PAS) in Poznań. She graduated in computer science and obtained her PhD in bioinformatics. She was awarded her habilitation degree in 2022 and the title of Professor of IBCH PAS in 2023.
Her research focuses on high-throughput sequencing data analysis and multi-omics integration, with particular emphasis on the human microbiome. She investigates the gut bacteriome, mycobiome, and virome, exploring their roles in human health and disease, particularly in cancer and response to immunotherapy.
Her recent work has provided insights into how microbiome composition is associated with patient outcomes in immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies, highlighting the role of fungal and viral communities as emerging components of host–microbiome interactions in oncology. In parallel, she is actively involved in the development of large-scale microbiome resources and bioinformatics infrastructure, including population-level datasets and platforms for integrative microbiome data analysis.
Her research combines computational biology, metagenomics, and clinical data integration to support translational applications of microbiome science in precision medicine.
