Jacek Jemielity, Professor

Prof. Jacek Jemielity is a chemist specialising in chemically modified mRNA. Since 2024, he has been the director of the Centre for New Technologies at the University of Warsaw, where he heads the Laboratory of Biological Chemistry. He has supervised 16 doctoral theses and 17 postdoctoral fellows. He is the co-founder and president of ExploRNA Therapeutics. He has led projects funded by the National Science Centre, the Foundation for Polish Science, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is the co-author of over 150 publications (over 4,500 citations, h-index 38) and the inventor of 14 patents (licensed by BioNTech and ExploRNA). His mRNA modification technologies are used in numerous clinical trials. He has received numerous awards, including the Foundation for Polish Science Award and the Economic Award of the President of the Republic of Poland, and has been nominated for the European Inventor Award. Since 2024, he has served as vice-chairman of the FNP Council.
