Research interests: crop genomics, mobile genetic elements in plant genomes and their relevance to the structure and function of host genomes with special emphasis on traits related to domestication, genetic determinants of crop plant tolerance to abiotic stresses, development of molecular tools to assist in breeding new varieties of agricultural and horticultural plants. In particular, I am investigating transposable elements in the genome of carrot and their importance to the host. I have also researched issues related to the biodiversity of wild and cultivated carrot populations, with a particular focus on the genetic determinants of traits related to domestication, i.e., carotenoid accumulation, storage root development and vernalization.
