Arkadiusz Kosmala, Professor
Institute of Plant Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences
Arkadiusz Kosmala (Head of Plant Physiology Team and Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, Institute of Plant Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poznań, Poland; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1760-1334)
Arkadiusz Kosmala did his PhD at the Institute of Plant Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IPG PAS) in Poznań, Poland (under the supervision of Prof. Z. Zwierzykowski). His early research focused on the cytogenetic mapping of chromosomal regions associated with drought and frost tolerance in forage grasses of Lolium-Festuca complex. Further, his scientific interests moved towards the analysis of grass proteomes and identification of proteins crucial to develop abiotic stress tolerance in this group of plants. Arkadiusz Kosmala has completed research internships at the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research in Aberystwyth (UK) and at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Ås (Norway). During 25 years of professional career, he has cooperated not only with numerous national and foreign scientific institutions but also with seed and breeding companies, working on different plant species, including cereals. Currently, as a full professor in agricultural sciences, A. Kosmala continues research at IPG PAS to understand the mechanisms involved in winter-hardiness and drought tolerance of forage grasses, paying a special attention to plant basic metabolism, gene expression and functional analysis of genes governing abiotic stress tolerance. Arkadiusz Kosmala is a member of the Committee of Agronomic Sciences PAS and the Scientific Councils of IPG PAS, the Institute of Plant Physiology PAS, the Institute of Dendrology PAS, and the Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute - National Research Institute.
